Five Weeks and Two Pictures
“It feels sort of funny to write this—to say that I spent five weeks walking across Spain for two really good pictures…
Alone Excerpt: Rome to Rumi
In the fall of 2014 I flew to Rome for a pilgrimage that I titled “From Rome to Rumi: A Pilgrimage from the Head of the Church to the Heart of Mysticism.”
Alone Excerpt: Relaxing Into Ruggedness
I dug deep to match the steeper grade. Then a funny thing happened: my breathing deepened and my body relaxed. I felt a sense of relief—I was coming home.
Alone Excerpt: Making the Commitment
How could I authentically say I’d gone down into the belly of the whale on this mythic journey if I bypassed the desert?
Alone Excerpt: The Mountain and I Are One
The line between observer and observed dissolves. I was no longer looking at a mountain: I was part of the mountain.
Alone Excerpt: Hints of Religious Mysticism
At the time, my thoughts unnerved me a little. Did I have a death wish? Was my longing about wanting to die?
Alone Excerpt: Facing the Painful History
About halfway between the summit and the town of Wisdom, I arrived at the Big Hole National Battlefield. I was inclined to ride on by…
Alone Excerpt: Such Simple Goodness
Afterwards, I felt clean again. But more than that, I felt alive. Really alive. More alive than I had in a long time.

The Inner Camino
It got so ridiculous at some points that I was thinking about my experiences in blog titles rather than the purer language of feelings, descriptions and honest reactions.
A Camino Sendoff: August 30
On Wednesday, August 30 at 7:00 p.m. (Pacific time), Brandon will host a “sendoff” for me as I embark on the Camino de Santiago for a pilgrimage that is both personal and missional.
Three Trails, One Emerging Issue
Something is definitely stirring.
It is clear that this Pedal Pilgrim work will be need to be intimately involved with Native American populations.
Paris: Monastery Style
Paris first. Then off to St. Jean Pied de Port for the first night of the formal Camino. At least that is what I thought.
Listening to our Bodies
Nothing like a mountain to expose our limits and reveal our capacities.
Soul Simplicity
If you are looking for a plan from me, I have to be honest—I don’t have one. But I do have an intention.
The Path Ahead
THE BIG LAUNCH—If all goes the way I am imagining it, I will take the months of May, June, July of next year to cycle the 4,100 miles of the Lewis and Clark Trail building the momentum for putting a pilgrimage infrastructure on this route.
Front Row Seats
Silly me. I should have already known this lesson. The path IS the message. And right now, what’s showing up on the path is a pretty heavy dose of paralyzing fear.
July 4 and the New Pilgrims
We still need pilgrims, but now rather than claiming the land we are traveling on we need to restore our relationship with the land with every sacred step or pedal stroke.
